Description
Reporting to the Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director is responsible for the comprehensive intramural, club sport, and special programming. This position works collaboratively with the entire Recreation Center staff to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive co-curricular recreation programs that aligns with the College's mission and reflects the best practices amongst institutions of higher education. The assistant director is responsible for all aspects of the College's intramural and club sport program, including hiring, training, and supervising intramural supervisors and officials; overseeing the scheduling of fields and courts for intramural and club sport practices and games; utilizing IMLeagues for scheduling of intramural games, managing sign-ups, and collecting waivers; ensure intramural and club sport participants adhere to college policies; marketing; assessment; and support the director in day-to-day facilities operations. The assistant director must demonstrate strong understanding of collegiate recreation sports; ability to collaborate with campus partners; work in a fast-paced environment; have an understanding of risk management; possess strong interpersonal and communication skills; approach their work with an awareness of diversity and inclusion; and be able to foster strong relationships with campus partners. Major Areas of ResponsibilityIntramurals
- Oversee a robust intramural program that focuses on inclusive and fair play, which includes 11 sports and over 1,000 participants
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate 30+ student staff including intramural officials and supervisors
- Publicize and promote intramural seasons
- Use IMLeagues for scheduling of intramural games, managing sign-ups, and collecting waivers
- Educate intramural sport participants of departmental policies and procedures as well as college policies
- Oversee all components of a comprehensive club sports program paying careful attention to the planning and execution of effective marketing and communications as well as safety, liability and risk management. The office of campus recreation offers 23 club sports and has over 500 club sport participants
- Review and enforce compliance with safety, risk, injury, and travel procedures for club teams.
- Maintain and enforce club sport handbook
- Ensure club sport documentation is appropriately completed and submitted in a timely manner
- Create and advise a Club Sport Council to assist with the administration of the club sport programs including funding and disciplinary decisions
- Market the Club Sport programs including scheduled competition and special events
- Work with co-chairs of club sports to provide student leadership development
- Coordinate all logistics for club sports, including field reservations, oversight of work orders for field preparation and lighting, and relocation of events.
- Maintain club sports budgets in accordance with procedures and uphold accountability for operating within approved budget limits.
- Educate club sport participants of departmental policies and procedures as well as college policies
- Assess, improve and, when beneficial, expand the Intramural Program capitalizing on the residential nature of the campus.
- Responsible for the design, implementation, and management of all special event activities within Campus Recreation including late night programming
- Manage the department in the absence of the Director of the Office of Campus Recreation.
- Assists with the enforcement of the facility policy and procedures.
- Act as a representative on divisional and campus-wide committees and task forces.
- Support the Director in the management of the building and the day-to-day operations of the Recreation Center.
- Assist with departmental projects; supervise tasks of staff and/or student staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree required. Masters degree preferred.
- Two years or more experience and/or demonstrated interest in coordinating club sports, intramurals, and/or recreation or intercollegiate athletic administration.
- First aid and CPR certified or willing to obtain within 6 months of employment
- An understanding of and appreciation for student development in a Jesuit Catholic context and a passion for working with students.
- Must be able to work collaboratively, independently and be able to make sound decisions independently.
- Must be self-motivated, able to operate independently and reach effective decisions.
- Must be available for some night and weekend work.
