Job Description

Responsibilities:

The Department of Human Performance at Minnesota State University, Mankato is accepting applications for a full-time probationary tenure-track position in the Athletic Training Program.

The selected candidate will:
  • Teach graduate courses in the Master of Science in Athletic Training program and the undergraduate pre-athletic training tract.
  • May be assigned to teach other courses within the Human Performance Department and the athletic training program, commensurate with one's educational background and the department's needs.
  • Will enhance student access and success by teaching graduate and undergraduate courses through a lens of racial equity and social justice.
  • Contribute to student success and degree completion, enhance equity in an inclusive environment, recruit prospective students, develop and maintain an active research agenda, incorporate experiential learning into coursework, and professional service.
  • Teach the standard load, which is 24 credits per academic year (9 month), typically 12 credits per semester. A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty-four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.
  • Develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, program administration and accreditation, program marketing, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
  • Be expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (see Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).

Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD, EdD, or other terminal degree (e.g., DAT, DA, etc.) in Athletic Training or a related field such as Kinesiology or Human Performance areas with specialization in Athletic Training. ABD considered but degree must be conferred on an official transcript by August 1, 2025.
  • Current certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer and a Minnesota license, or eligible for Minnesota license, to practice athletic training in the state of Minnesota.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach courses within a professional program in athletic training including but not limited to therapeutic modalities, medical pathology and procedures, manual therapy, therapeutic rehabilitation, research methods and statistics, pathomechanics in sports medicine, and other courses based on experience and program/department needs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the CAATE accreditation standards and accreditation processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse student population and apply an equity lens to this position, including social justice and/or antiracism.

Preferred Qualification
  • Previous experience as a clinical education coordinator and/or program director for a CAATE accredited athletic training program.
  • Additional certifications or credentials in related areas (e.g., IASTM, Dry Needling, Cupping, CPR Instructor)
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to active learning and to developing innovative ways to support learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and teach face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses using appropriate teaching pedagogy and technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships and collaborate with sport and health care organizations to facilitate clinical experiences and research opportunities, internships, and potential full-time employment for graduates.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and sustain an active research agenda.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise and mentor athletic training and/or pre-athletic training students.
  • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.

The Department of Human Performance offers undergraduate programs in Exercise Science, Physical Education-DAPE, and Sports Management and graduate programs in Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, Sport Management, and Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology.
