Position Description
This position provides dedicated medical/healthcare to cross country and track and field student athletes, including operational support for cross country and track practices, competition and team travel. The position reports to the Director of Sports Medicine.
Essential Job Functions
Clinical Care (50%)
- Provide onsite care and management (at all practices and competitions) to include manual therapies, practice and competition preparation and the assessment and treatment of injuries and illnesses.
- Assess risk of injury; perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation and overall wellness promotion.
- Maintain electronic documentation of patient care and communication.
- Coordinate care with Athletic Performance staff and head coach on injury prevention strategies, training modifications for injury or health and collaboration on performance improvement for holistic and seamless care.
- Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs to each patient.
- Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student athletes with restrictions or limitations.
Communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes. - Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operating procedures.
- Assist, as available, in coverage other sport competitions and/or practices during the cross country and track off seasons.
Operational Support of Cross Country and Track (50%)
- 20% Manage team travel logistics (liaise with Shorts Travel or travel partner), itinerary planning and communication
- 10% Assist with the off-campus transportation of students for practices and local competition
- 10% Assist the head coach in initiatives and on-campus activities for recruiting (creating itineraries, etc.)
- 10% Assist with equipment management and serve as point person for shoes and apparel to ensure proper fit for optimal health, performance and injury mitigation
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Athletic Training or related field and two years of athletic training experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Must have National Athletic Trainers' Association membership and be Board of Certification certified.
- Must hold or be eligible for Washington State Athletic Trainer License.
- Current certification in adult CPR, AED and First Aid for the healthcare provider/professional rescuer.

- Must be able to exercise discretion and have sound professional judgement, as well as be able to collaborate with an array of people.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the NCAA, the Western Athletic Conference, and other established bodies that govern or oversee intercollegiate athletics. In the event Employee becomes aware, or has reasonable cause to believe, that violations of these organizations' constitutions, bylaws, rules or regulations may have taken place, Employee shall promptly report the same to the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Rules Education at the University.
- Employee shall cooperate fully and completely with any investigation of any alleged violation, whether such investigation is conducted by the University, NCAA or any other duly authorized agency or individual.
- Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems. Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.
- Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
- Attention to Detail: Athletic trainers should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families.
- Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strength and conditioning certification (CSCS or SCCC)

Compensation at a Glance
Salary Range: $54,000 - $56,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
