Bunker Hill Community College, a vibrant and diverse higher education learning environment in Boston, Massachusetts, is seeking an Assistant Director of Athletics and Wellness. This full-time position reports to the Director of Athletics and Wellness and directly supervises the Fitness Center, Intramurals and Recreation/Club sports. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. The successful candidate will be outgoing, student-centered and well-organized.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusion and diversity including but not limited to differences in ethnicity, national origin, race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identification and abilities.
- Recruit, appoint, train, supervise and evaluate contract staff, interns; and work-study students for athletic events and wellness / intramural activities.
- Create and implement an annual, and ongoing onboarding and training program for staff on College policies, resources, compliance requirements, and safety.
- Help foster an effective working and learning culture for student staff and interns.
- Assist the Director with supervision of all administrative, operational and business functions of the Department in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the College.
- Cultivate and enhance relationships both on campus and in the community to support and represent the mission of the College and the Department of Athletics and Wellness.
- Assist the Director in scheduling for all intercollegiate athletic events and facilities; maintaining an accurate and current calendar of facility scheduling and communicate with relevant parties accordingly.
- Assist the Director and Coaches with recruiting and retention of eligible student-athletes.
- Update website on all Athletics and Wellness activities, events and competitions.
- Direct athletic program expansion in Wellness Education and Intramural Sports.
- Assist the Director with home game coverage for all sports.
- Be an active member of the Division of Student Affairs and the College by participating in staff meetings, trainings, retreats and professional development opportunities as appropriate.
- Assist the Director in identifying and prioritizing the Department's funding requirements and assist in administering the annual operating budget.
- Direct the purchase, maintenance and inventory of fitness and intramural equipment.
- Assist the Director in maintaining athletic records and data for athletic teams to meet NJCAA compliance.
- Work collaboratively with Academic Advisors in Life Map to facilitate academic support, registration and educational plans for athletes and student workers.
- Assist Director in continuous monitoring of course load of each athlete on a weekly basis.
- Attend NJCAA Compliance Seminar at least once every three years and review updates from NJCAA each semester.
- Abide by all NJCAA guidelines.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sport Management or closely related field.
- At least four years of related experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of athletic sporting programs with respect to planning, equipment, compliance issues, and facility needs.
- Familiarity with best practices and knowledge of current trends and issues in community college athletics, recreation, wellness and intramural programs and activities.
- Commitment to the philosophy of NJCAA Division III Athletics at a large urban Community College.
- Proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population.
- Demonstrated excellence in oral, written, and interpersonal communications required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Exceptional collaborative leadership and communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple departments throughout the college to ensure the success of student athletes.
- CPR, First Aid, AED Certifications.
- Skilled at MS Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Sports and Athletic Administration or related field.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Community College and compliance experience.
Additional Information:
Salary: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 Non-Unit Professional position. Full State Benefits. Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate With Education and Experience.
